Denso Corporation (Kabushiki-Gaisha Densō) is a leading global manufacturer of automotive components, located in the city of Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The company was founded in 1949 after becoming independent from Toyota Motors and was originally named Nippon Denso Co. Ltd. (Nippon Densō). About 25% of the company is owned by Toyota Motor. Although part of the Toyota Group, by the end of the 2016 fiscal year, less than 50% of the company's revenue came from sales to the Toyota Group (44% of the revenue comes from other car manufacturers in Japan, Germany, the U.S., and China). Today, Denso ranks as the second largest supplier of auto parts in the world. As of 2016, Denso Corporation includes 189 subsidiaries (63 in Japan, 34 in the Americas, 34 in Europe, and 58 in Asia/Oceania), employing a total of 151,775 people. The company is further expanding its global production structure by establishing manufacturing plants in India, Mexico, and Indonesia to meet the growing global demand for its products. In 2013, Denso was ranked #242 on the Fortune Global 500 list, with a total revenue of $43.1 billion. |
