History and Development of SNR
- Founding: SNR was founded in 1916 by Swiss blacksmith Jacques Schmidt in the town of Annecy, France.
- Early years: The first bearings produced bore the mark SRO.
- After World War II: The heavily damaged factory was acquired by the French automotive manufacturer Renault. After reconstruction, the company was renamed SNR (Société Nouvelle de Roulements), meaning "New Bearing Company."
- Development: In the following years, the company experienced rapid growth alongside France's industry, especially in the automotive sector, where SNR bearings were widely used.
- Modern day: In 2008, the SNR brand was acquired by the Japanese company NTN Corporation. The new structure was named NTN-SNR and became one of the leading bearing manufacturers in the world.
