Bedford Vehicles is a legendary brand of commercial vehicles created by Vauxhall Motors, which was part of General Motors. Founded in April 1931, Bedford quickly became one of the world’s leading producers of light, medium, and heavy trucks, successfully exporting its vehicles worldwide. In 1987, the core heavy trucks business was sold and continued under the AWD Trucks name, while the Bedford brand remained on light commercial vehicles and vans based on Vauxhall/Opel, Isuzu, and Suzuki models. The Bedford brand was retired in 1991. Today, the former Bedford van manufacturing plant operates as GM Manufacturing Luton and is managed by Stellantis following the acquisition of Vauxhall by PSA Group in 2017.
